Fundraiser to Save the Bridgepointe Ice Rink
Campaign Description

Update:  The campaign to date has been excellent and we've raised more than our minimum, but we are still well short of our target goal of $25,000.  We are making progress with our lawyer who is helping the city craft a strategy to get the rink re-opened as soon as possible.  In order to try to achieve raising our target funds, we will be extending the campaign for another month and we hope that you can help spread the word so that we can find more supporters of this important ice rink that many kids use and has developed Olympic Champions provided avenues for college scholarships.

Thank you, again.  This would not be possible without you.

We ask you to join us in the fight to save the Bridgepointe Ice Rink in San Mateo by donating $50-$100 or as much as you are comfortable giving.  Each donation regardless of size counts in this fight to save our beloved rink.

Thanks in huge part to the generosity of our early donors, we raised the minimum amount of $10,000 ('the tilt' amount) in less than one week!

However, our goal is to raise $25,000 - this will help us move to the next phase of our campaign to get the Bridgepointe Ice Rink re-opened, and not just fight against the change to retail.

Please spread the word to your friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues.  Every donation helps - most importantly, it demonstrates to the City, property owner, and media how deep the support is for this important and valued community benefit.

Thank you again for the great support and hopefully we can get more people to join the cause and contribute.

Background

In order to continue the fight to keep the Bridgepointe ice rink in place and to have it reopened as soon as possible, the Committee to Save the Bridgepointe Ice Rink needs funds for attorney fees, other professional services, business services, and office supplies.  Until now, the Committee has funded the efforts ourselves -- but the recent activity by the owner and future action planned by your Committee requires that we step up our activities and funding.   We now need your help financially to proceed.

The lease on the Bridgepointe (San Mateo) Ice Rink was terminated in June of 2013. The owner of the property, SPI Holdings would like to demolish the rink and replace it with a retail store. The ice rink is part of the original master plan and the City Council will decide the fate of the rink at an upcoming meeting later this year.

The community at large believes we need less retail and more recreational opportunities for our children and families.  We need to fight to not allow a rezoning and to get the rink reopened as soon as possible.

More information on the activities regarding the efforts to save the ice rink can be found through our Facebook page, our website and/or the change.org petition. You can also email us for more information or to voice your opinion to share with the planning commission and city council at [email protected]

Thank you so much for your generous support.

Sincerely,

The Committee to Save the Bridgepointe Ice Rink in San Mateo

Bridgepointe Ice RinkGood Morning Bridgepointe Ice Rink Supporters

It has come to our attention that the Bridgepointe Shopping Center owner, SPI Holdings, is considering submitting a proposal to the city that would involve keeping a version of the ice rink in its current building, along with retail in the same building. We are anxiously awaiting the details of this proposal, and will keep you posted as soon as we have more information.
We are encouraged by the potential for progress and know that we would not have come this far without your support (financial and otherwise), encouragement, letters, and attendance at the community and city meetings. With a possible proposal in the works, we know there will be much more work to do and meetings to attend. We THANK YOU for your continued support.

Bridgepointe Ice RinkFirst of all, thank you so much for your generous contributions to this worthy campaign.  Just over ten days left and though we've raised over $12,500, we're still only half way to our goal of $25,000.  We are asking you to please send a simple note (with a link to this campaign (http://tilt.tc/WLKd) to your friends, coworkers and family to support our cause so that we can reach our goal.
We strongly believe we can win and get the rink opened but it will cost close to $30,000 to get there.  You may recall, the City of San Mateo allowed a 7-11 to open in an area which it wasn't zoned for. The people fought (as we are now) and after many months, the people won! The 7-11 is now gone. It cost the 7-11 citizen's group over $30,000 to win that fight.  We too can win, and we're asking you to help by spreading the word.
Once again, thank you for your already generous contribution and even if you can't spread the word, thank you so much for your financial support!!
